Software Development

I have been developing software for over 9 years. Much of the software that I’ve written has been part of my job. As such the intellectual property rights have been retained by my employer and I’ve had to leave the code behind.

It hasn’t been until fairly recently that I’ve had the opportunity to work on software that has been developed as Open Source. The development projects that I list here can be broken into the following three categories.

As part of my job

Up until the end of 2011 I worked at [Flinders University] on a small number of research based projects. From the start of this year I’m working for the Serval Project directly which I contributed to as a student last year while working on my honours thesis.

As part of my studies

As I mentioned in the studies section of this site I’ve been studying for an honours degree at Flinders University.

As part of my studies I’ve development a number of software applications these are listed on the archived development page. These apps were written during the early stages in the development of the Serval Mapping Services app to assist during the development.

Serval Mapping Services

The Serval Mapping Services application is designed to run on Android powered mobile devices. It supports collaborative mapping activities and uses a resilient Ad Hoc mesh network for sharing information between users. The network is powered by the Serval Project software.

More information on the application is available in my honours thesis which will be published here in the studies section of the site once it has been assessed. The source code for the application is available via GitHub

Personal projects

The first personal project to be listed on here is Techxplorer’s CMS, which is a content management system that I’ve developed to power this website.
